Tommy Darnell worked for worked for 44 1/2 years in the banking industry and is now retired. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of BancorpSouth Bank (NYSE: BXS) based in Tupelo, Mississippi, with responsibilities including the corporate line of business, the leasing division, treasury management sales, and supervision of the company’s management training program.
Prior to joining BancorpSouth, Darnell worked for 31 years for Trustmark National Bank(NYSE: TRMK) based in Jackson, Mississippi. During his time with Trustmark, he worked in retail lending, correspondent banking, commercial lending, and as Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer.
He has enjoyed associations with a number of community organizations during his career including the boards of Christ United Methodist Church, St. Catherine’s Village, The Rotary Club of Jackson, Jackson Academy, Metro Chamber of Commerce, Magnolia Speech School/Chairman, Capital Club/Chairman, Community Foundation for Mississippi/Vice Chairman, Royal Maid Association for the Blind/Chairman, St. Dominic Community Advisory Board/Chairman, Graduate School of Banking at LSU/President,
Jackson Symphony Orchestra Association, Mississippi Opera, New Stage Theatre, Hinds County Heart Association, Kidney Foundation of Mississippi, and the Jackson One Hundred Club. In addition, he has been a lifelong supporter of the United Way and served on the Capital Fundraising drives of Belhaven, Millsaps, and Mississippi College.
He is currently serving on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Mississippi State University School of Business.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Banking and Finance from Mississippi State University, an MBA from Mississippi College, a degree from the Graduate School of Banking at LSU, and has completed the American Bankers Association’s Undergraduate and Graduate Commercial Lending Programs at the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma. Darnell now resides in Madison, Mississippi.
